Spain is really close to allowing same-sex marriages and allowing gay couples to adopt. Why is it a country like Spain, where being gay was punishable by law only 25 years ago, can make laws like this, but Denmark can't? I really don't understand it...

Oh man, this is fantastic! Especially since I've always thought the Catholic church was really strong there, it's great to see the majority of people supporting it. :D

*kicks Denmark*

*kicks America HARD*

Yeah, I tought Spain would be one of the very last European countries to allow it, but sometimes countries can surprise you!

*kicks Denmark and especially America*

I remember hearing a while ago that one of the candidates for erm... prime minister? What's the highest office in Spain? ^^; Anyway, he said that he would totally go for gay marriage and complete gay rights, which I thought was great and he was very popular, but I didn't think he'd actually go through with it (campaign politics, the like). I dunno if he ended up getting elected, but whatever! Yay Spain! And now Raul and Moro can divorce their wives and marry each other, and their wives can marry each other too so they're all still together! XDDD

Would have thought Denmark would be one of the next countries, as it's always struck me as being pretty progressive. :\ *considers moving to Canada*

I actually think he was voted President. They went from having an extreme right-President to this really left-wing person voted in. So, yay! They might move into the 21st century soon!

Yeah, but we had a social democratic government to a right wing government, so I think we have to wait a few years until gays can adopt. It's actually pretty funny, because a good part of the country believes our Prime Minister is gay. Thank God I'm not the man he has to sleep with...

I have to say in DK's defense that in 1976 (I think it was) we were the first country in the world to allow gays to get married. Okay, maybe not in a church but at least it's something. Sadly nothing much else has happened since.

Yeah, exactly. If a country like Spain, who has so may catholics it's not even funny, can do it, why can't we? But it may be on the way, with all the discussion about church weddings we've had lately. I think it should be up to every church if they would allow gays to get married, because eventually every church would allow it. I hope...

It's 1989

Good on Spain, shocking though it is.

Really? I wasn't sure if it was 1976 or 1967...but 1989? That's so sad. That's like only 15 years ago. It's sucky world we live in.

It is. But we were still the first country to have anything like it.

I think 76 was abortions and 72 is free porn...but I could be wrong.

Oh, nice ;)

I used to get them mixed up - I was sure it was '76 until...oh, a year or two ago, I think. After National Museet put up the exibition on Denmark.

You know what? This is so fucking great that I'm dancing. *squee*

And Spain is odd in so many ways. The age of consent is 13. 13, and it's a Catholic country, reputedly having great problems with domestic violence because the Catholic Church designates the realtionship between a woman and a man.

Spain is a weird weird country. In my Social Studies class we had to write papers on Spain. My group chose women in Spain and some chose youth, immigrants, gypsies, the Basque and things like that. I learned a lot!
